PostSubject: Storms - News and Updates from around the world   Wed Sep 20, 2017 10:26 am

First there was Harvey, then Irma and now it's Maria who is barreling down towards Puerto Rico!

I can not even fathom what it would be like to having to face this kind of destructive weather and I'm thinking and sending all my best wishes to anyone in the path of Hurricane Maria.

I have come across a great site for those who want to follow what is happening, weather wise.

The name of the site is Mike's Weather Page and it shows all radar, satellite etc.

Be safe everyone!

PostSubject: Mount Agung erupts in Bali, Indonesia   Tue Nov 28, 2017 8:49 am

As I was watching my daughter's flight on flightaware I noticed that Denpasar Airport in Bali had NO flights circling around their airport, which is an eary sight to see.

Indonesia’s Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation remains at the highest red rating - indicating a further eruption with significant emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere is imminent.

The closure of the airport has scrambled summer holiday plans and left thousands of Australians stranded in Bali.

In a statement, the airport said 445 flights — including 196 international flights — were cancelled on Monday, affecting about 59,000 passengers.
Tuesday’s cancellation is expected to impact 30,000 passengers trying to leave Bali.

Volcanic ash also forced the closure of the small international airport on the neighbouring island of Lombok on Sunday.

I've been following that one Martha. Not because I have a personal reason to just because it's quite a dramatic one. I hope nobody has loved ones stranded there.

My friend Sandy moved to Bali only a few months ago and she's getting her supplies ready from what I hear. Then there are all the schoolies that are there from Australia and the usual Aussie visitors.

I tend to follow these types of things too because of Natasja's work at the airport Wendy.
She's not going to be a happy girl with all the extra work she'll have when she gets back to her shifts tomorrow.

Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia have launched rescue flights to bring back more than 4000 stranded holidaymakers from Bali before Mt Agung’s eruption becomes explosive.

Late yesterday afternoon, there was another major tremor that lasted three hours and peaked for 20 minutes.

A small window opened up yesterday afternoon with the ash cloud being blown away from the airport, allowing flights to resume.

About 150,000 travellers from around the world are stranded in Bali and bus services to Java and other airports are full for the next five days.

The wind forecast from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre for the next 24 hours is positive, with a westerly wind blowing the ash to the east and well away from the airport.

The holiday mecca is bracing for an even bigger, possibly explosive eruption of Mt Agung after a massive 30-minute tremor inside the crater on Tuesday.

More than 1000 flights were cancelled during the three days that Bali airport was closed this week, disrupting the plans of more than 150,000 passengers.

It is scary. I didn't realize it was schoolies time too Martha. Good to hear the airlines are getting quite a lot out of there between them.

My friend Sandy (who now lives in Bali) has spend a day bringing supplies to all the local villagers who have been evacuated from their villages since September, when Mt Agung first started rumbling.

To see so many people huddled up in tents with mud and water all around them; with only a plastic tarp over the kitchen/cooking area is sad. Supplies have run out or are slowly running out so quiet a few people here in WA are collecting what they can and try and get it send across.

This is one of many photo's my friend took of the refugee camp set up for all those that had to be evacuated. This is the kitchen for the people to cook their meals. It has no fridge etc and my friend tells me the smell of rotten/off vegetables is horrendous.

Suddenly my messy pantry looks alright to me Neutral

I saw that. Terrifying how fast it moved.

Scotland and probably Northern England, Northern Ireland and Wales are in for a snowstorm with gales today. We have warnings for ice and possible blizzard conditions here from the early hours of Friday.

Oh heck Wendy.  Mind you I do think the whole of England is in for a great deal of early snow this year.

Perhaps I should put a bet on regarding it snowing in London on Christmas day.  I've never bet on that, but I think this year it might end up to be a sure thing.  The betting for this year is 3 to 1.

There is a 25% chance for it snowing way down south here by Christmas day.

I do Martha. lol Candles at the ready too. Saves walking round with a torch in my hand every time I move. I'm hoping we'll miss the brunt of it and keep our power but better to be prepared. It will get very cold with no heating so fingers crossed.

Might be well worth a punt Sandy.
