Vaping versus smoking Empty
PostSubject: Vaping versus smoking   Vaping versus smoking EmptyThu Apr 20, 2017 1:34 pm

There has been a lot of controversy online and in the news about Vaping here and no doubt, world wide.

I know it's best if one does not smoke or vape at all. However having said that; I and many others who took up smoking for various reasons many years ago, where not told of the devastating effects that smoking would have on our health.

The tobacco industry has a lot to answer for that's for sure but seeing as they finance high risers, politicians and the likes; they are in business to make as much money as they can. That our health was compromised and many smokers die from using the chemically laden tobacco, well that is another story.

What has irked me the most in recent years is the fact that most countries in the west and Austral Asia regions, have put the taxes up so much for cigarettes, while at the same time they tell us how bad it is blah blah blah blah.
Now I am not disputing the fact that it's bad for our health ... far from it ... but what really gets me is that instead of just banning tobacco because of the health factors; no ... they keep putting the tax up instead!

So a few years ago I decided to try out vaping and using e-juices and I loved it! Still love it and really like the taste and not having the yucky smell that comes from all the chemicals that go into the tobacco!

I've come across a website where they broke down the difference between smoking and vaping and I will post that in a reply, otherwise this post gets too long.

Costs & Savings of E-Cigarettes

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This is an outline of how much money can be saved by switching to Electronic Cigarettes.

If you smoke a pack a day of regular cigarettes you will spend in excess of $150 per week.

That's over $7800 per year.

You can buy a Starter kit for under $100 which the batteries will last for 3-6 months depending on use and how well they are looked after.

E-liquid in 30ml containers will last around 10 days under normal use - cost as low as $38.85 for 90ml which will last most people a month.

The clearomizer is the replaceable part on the E-Cig which at worst you may need to replace 2-3 times a month, most of these you can simply buy replacement coils for, which are as little as $2.00 each.

Factoring in the above and replacing your batteries 3 times a year and you have a total cost per year of around $750

That's a massive saving of over $7000 per year.

From $24.58 for a Marlboro pack in Melbourne to $1.80 in Moscow, this is how much cigarette packs cost around the world, according to a Deutsche Bank report released last year.

Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison announced he would lift the tobacco excise by 12.5 per cent a year for four years until 2020, which experts said would lift prices to up to $40AUD

Tobacco and cigarettes
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

More Info

If you’re aged 18 or older, you can bring in duty-free:

  • up to 50 cigarettes, or
  • 50 grams of tobacco products
  • plus one open packet of cigarettes with 25 or less cigarettes in it.

You can bring in up to 1.5 kilograms of smokeless tobacco (chewing tobacco or snuff) for personal use, but you will have to pay duty on it (only 50 grams is allowed duty-free).

Exceptions

If you bring in more than your duty-free allowance for tobacco and cigarettes, you’ll need to pay duty on all of your tobacco and cigarettes, not just on the excess.
You must have a permit to bring in more than 1.5 kilograms of chewing tobacco or snuff.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

So not only have they increased the tax on cigarettes and tobacco products to the extreme; the government here in Australia has also changed the border allowance for bringing cigarettes into the country, from 200 to 50!

Many people get caught out when they arrive here and either have to pay a hefty duty or they have to leave the extra 150 cigarettes at the border check point!

And again, none of this has to do with them being concerned about your health, but rather how can we profit more from smokers as they are so addicted that we will always have a good revenue from that!

All of the above is such a good incentive to change over from smoking to vaping!
Or of course quit all together!

Vaping versus smoking Empty

What are electronic cigarettes?
Electronic cigarettes (also known as e-cigarettes or personal vaporizers) are an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. They are battery-operated devices that create an inhalable, water-based mist instead of smoke.

The rechargeable battery powers a heating element called an "atomizer." The element uses low heat to turn liquid in the cartridge, which contains propylene glycol, glycerin, food flavoring and nicotine, into a fog-like mist. This fog like mist is not smoke nor does it carry any form of passive smoke related chemicals found in tobacco products and as such is perfectly safe and non invasive to non smokers.

There are many models of e-cigarettes available. Some look like traditional cigarettes, others look similar to a pen and some even look like small flashlights. Some have LED lights, some have built-in liquid reservoirs, others have combined atomizer cartridges, some are tubular and some are even rectangular boxes.
They come in all shapes and sizes and have different features for former smokers who wish to distance themselves from anything resembling a traditional cigarette or want a longer battery life and/or better performance.

What are the advantages of vaping over smoking?
1. Completely smoke free nothing is burned.
2. No combustion means no smoke only vapour (steam).
3. No ash, no air pollution and and no smell and the user nor their clothes smell of stale tobacco smoke.
4. No dirty butts to dispose of, no ash trays to clean. no dirty smouldering butts thrown on the street or bush and causing fires.
5. Delivers optional vaporised nicotine, and is available in almost all of the flavours you can imagine.
6. A safer alternative to that of smoking combustible tobacco. Vaping Isn't Smoking No combustion means no smoke.
What you see is a water based vapour (just like a fog machine).

The solution used to produce the vapour contains no tobacco, meaning electronic cigarette cartridges and PV solutions are not tobacco products. Some models resemble a tobacco cigarette (thus the term electronic cigarette) but the majority do not.
Some use a two piece design, some are made up of three. Some look like metal tubes while others are wooden boxes. There are countless different varieties allowing you to match your PV to your own individual taste.

Do e-cigarettes contain anti-freeze?
No. This myth was created by a 2009 FDA press statement regarding electronic cigarettes. The FDA tested 18 cartridges from 2 companies. Of those 18 cartridges, 1 tested positive for a non-toxic amount of diethylene glycol (approximately 1%). While diethylene glycol is occasionally used in anti-
freeze, the chemical is not a standard ingredient in e-cigarette liquid and it has not been found in any other samples tested to date.

The base liquid for e-cigarette liquid is usually propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is considered GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA and EPA. While it is also sometimes found in anti-freeze, it is actually added to make the anti-freeze less toxic and safer for small children and pets.
Propylene glycol is a common ingredient found in many of the foods we eat, cosmetics we use and medications we take. It is also used in the fog machines used in theaters and night clubs.

The 2 main online sites that I order my vaping mods and juices from are:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The Ecigify Team (Michael & Scott) are wonderful and will answer any question a customer has. They ship out your order straight away and in general I receive my order in 2 days by express post here in Western Australia.

and

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Vape Craft formerly known as Alternate Cig is making a name for itself in the vaping industry by providing e-liquid of the highest quality at rock bottom prices while winning over the hearts of customers with stellar customer service.
Vape Craft is in Vista, California, USA

Because of the law regarding nicotine in e-juices here in Australia, I order my juices with nicotine from Vape Craft and my E-cig accessories from Ecigify.

I have now ordered an e-juice from Ecigify without the nicotine and will post my opinion of the flavour later when I've used it.

Another option I have is to order the nicotine by itself and add that to the e-juices from Ecigify. My aim is to try the juice out without the nicotine and if I really like the flavour I might even stop using the nicotine juices all together. Time will tell Wink

There are so  many contradicting statements out there Brad and most of them come from the pharmaceutical section! Why? Because they will loose out on profits from nicotine patches and gums and of course all the medication they provide to cancer patients.

Not only that but the Tobacco companies will write whatever they can slur, as they stand to loose a lot of profit too if people start vaping!

It's the 400+ chemicals in tobacco or cigarettes that cause cancer, and not the nicotine itself!

We have Doctors over here that have gone on record to say how when a patient goes to them for help with quitting smoking that after telling them what help they can get on the NHS, such as groups, patches and gum, they also advise them of e-cigarettes which one can't get on the NHS.

The only heath hazzard of e-cigarettes, or vaping, is that nicotine is addictive. But of course if one is addicted anyway, healthwise they virtually the same as quitting smoking completely.

That is why I posted that youtube video above Sandy. I'm amazed how so many people just believe whatever nonsense the main stream media reports.

If people are worried about the nicotine in vaping, they can also get the e-juice without the nicotine!

Another thing is that most that give advice will tell a smoker to go to the doctor and get those nasty pills to stop smoking; or get those nicotine patches. They don't talk about how dangerous those quitting pills are!
